            Well, the last section of the novel was more exciting than the entire rest of the book and it was not terrible for me to read, unlike the rest of the book. A big theme that I had discovered within this book was deception and a lot of it. On page 469, it says, “We know humans betrayed their own kind and tried to blame us,” this statement alone was prominent and bold. As I have said in previous blog posts, there are a lot of relations within the book and our world and deception is all over in the novel, as well as in our society. Deception will always be around in books, movies, cartoons, people etc. – there is no escaping it.

            Additionally, I did not like there was no real ending, leaving my mind to wonder what was going to happen next and I like to know what is happening, or what did happen in the end. Even though the author gave a glimpse of what was going to happen next, it was only a glimpse. On page 510, it says, “Elders are looking at all the humans on the continent rather than eliminating the badness in one town and reclaiming the land.” Does this mean every single human or every single bad human on the continent? For ending a book, I am left with way more questions than answers like if the Elders were talking about every single human bad nor good, what about Meg, what would happen to Simon if Meg did happen to be gone forever, and who are the Elders really, as they call them. As much I hate not knowing, it does leave an endless amount of possibilities for what could happen and sometimes it is better to leave the mind wide open. Also, most people including me, like to know the final ending to anything, no matter what it is like a book, a song, a movie, because it makes us feel complete. Though, if you think about it, our lives are like that as well and we do not know our endings either.

            Overall, I could have been happy not reading this book at all and only because it was just not my type or style. To much randomness, to much back and forth, to many plots and a few other things. Not to say that this book would not be something another person would not enjoy, it is just something that I did not.

            So, in the beginning of this book I really liked it and then the more I read into the novel, my decision had changed on liking the book at all. I figured that being fantasy I would really enjoy the book, but my feelings of fantasy and the authors is completely different. It might be because there are so many similarities of our world and theirs, making it hard to see the novel as fantasy. On page 352, it talks about Meg being upset because a person she had given advice to dies, Simon says, “She died because a human turned rabid and attacked other humans who were shopping in that store,” which that happens here in our world more often than we would like. All throughout the book there are situations where I feel those situations could happen here. Also, I should not forget that the novel is even fantasy with having what they call “others” in the book, but I do.

            Additionally, I am having a hard time keeping up with the book now. There are so many (what seems to me), to be a lot of climaxes, major events, and smaller events happening all over the place, making it hard to follow. First and most obvious issue in the novel is the onset problem of ownership of land. Then there is the problem with the blood prophets being owned and used for profit, along with knowing how their powers of visions actually work to determine the meanings. Also, there is the case Lizzy and her mother’s murder with the mystery of Lizzy’s bear Boo Bear and the jewels that were inside of him. To many things going on all at once and all over the place. Not what I thought the book was going to be. To me, it feels like it should just be a murder/mystery book and it does not matter if there are “others” in the book or not because they seem just as human as the actually humans themselves.

            With what is going on in the book, I cannot help but find similarities between what is happening there and what goes on here in our society here. There is a big issue with the blood prophets and people trying to own them, trying to use them, and only to keep the female babies of the blood prophets because the males would not offer anything the humans wanted. It reminds me of how some people are in our society such as trying to own someone or something that only profits them, getting into a relationship only due to obtaining profit, and using people for their own selfish reasons that will profit them. It seems to be a theme within the book and here in our world, doing whatever it takes to prosper in life, no matter what the cost, even if it is illegal. Also, I noticed within the book that while being a blood prophet, they do not like change at all. In our world, people do not like change either, we are comfortable with where we are and change could complicate things, or just take us out of the comfort zone that we all are reliant on. No matter what world anyone is in, even in a book, change is uncomfortable and is not something that is wanted. The more I read, the more similarities I see within society today in our world.

            When Meg Corbyn insists that she has to cut, it is another similarity that we have here in our world: addiction. On page 225, Meg says, “I have to cut. I have to cut now.” People with any type of addiction, no matter what kind, would understand that when you get some sort of urge, it has to be done. There are so many things in this book that can relate back to us here in our world, and almost everything I have read so far can relate in some way or another. We have groups of people who are against other groups, we have war on others that we do not agree with, along with many other issues that are in the book, we have some way, shape, or form here in our society.

            My first thought about reading this book was that I was going to like it, since I like fantasy. The unknown does not mean it is not real, in any way shape or form. New discoveries are made all the time and who is to know what is real and what is not. No one even knows how big the universe or what is beyond what the human eye can see, or technology can see. Just because something cannot be seen does not mean it is not there. Don’t you think?

            I will admit when I first started reading the book, I was confused about who was who or what was what, even with the help the book gives before the initial reading begins. For example, I thought Meg Corbyn was a wolf until it was said in class that she was a human. The way the characters talk in the book is what made me conclude that Meg was a wolf. On page 6, it says, “Meg sat on the closed toilet seat and waited for Merri Lee, the human friend who was learning to work as her listener and interpreter,” and on page 52, it says, “And while he waited for Blair to bring over a vehicle from the Utilities Complex, he could find out what Meg and her pack were doing with the camera.” It is just little sentences like these throughout the book so far that made me think she was not a human, but a wolf.

            So far, I do like this book and already it has many mysterious events taking place, making my mind wonder about what is to come next. Not knowing leads people to think and wonder, keeping their minds going and active. Also, the book relates to our society as well in ways, by the power of having power, how some people think they can take over something by force, with some succeeding and that there are a variety of ways to have relationships such as being together, friendships, and business relationships. I am excited to see what happens next!

                I feel that Nikki Sixx has great courage writing the book, publishing the book, and especially putting all his personal journals in the book as well. Most people would not dare to put anything personal out into the public, especially about this specific topic. Nikki wrote the book for a very obvious and great reason. On page 413, Nikki writes, “Someone asked me why I was writing this book and I said, ‘Maybe one person will read it and it will help them,’” even if Nikki only helped one person, he was willing to share everything for just to help that one person. People are hypercritical and will judge before actually knowing the whole story, and I am not talking just about this book but for many other issues in life as well.

            I can to relate to Nikki in and what he has gone through in a variety of ways. I absolutely hate when people talk about a subject without knowing all the facts that go along with it. For example, when people say just get over it, stop doing what you are doing it is destroying your life, and or the most famous, well I guess you do not care about anything. What people do not know is the underlining cause of why people do what they do. Most of the time it is not because they want to, it is not because they do not love their loved ones/family, or they just do not care about anything, but it is because they must. Sounds strange, right?  Addiction causes chemical imbalances in the brain because of the reward system over load that has taken place, causing immense issues for that person.

            I recognize what Nikki was trying to do when he published this book that had all of his most inner darkest secrets, as well as thoughts. Knowledge about addiction needs to be widespread across the nation, and even the nation is pretty much under a drug addiction epidemic. People are overdosing and dying daily because of taking immense amount of drugs or just taking drugs without actually knowing the contents of what they are about to have in their bloodstream. Addition needs to be spoken about more frequently and talked about in all the schools as well. Nikki Sixx wrote a book about his addition, along with other serious issues that he was dealing with at the time and everything that Nikki has wrote about needs to be addressed everywhere. Something needs to be done, something needs to take place to help others that have been in the same situation as Nikki.
